A Minneapolis solar home installer is the best resource for information about going solar.

Minnesota is proud to be home to the largest freshwater lake in America. Lake Superior contains 10% of all the earths freshwater and as much water as all the other Great Lakes combined. It is an astounding sight and seeing the rise in global fossil fuel consumption affect this Great Lake would be a tragedy. The state of Minnesota is offering highly competitive incentives and rebates to residential and commercial properties to make the switch to solar and reduce fossil fuel consumption and in turn, help protect all the beauty Minnesota has to offer.

The state of Minnesota is currently offering a $2.00 per Watt incentive. So a Photovoltaic (PV) solar panel system of 5kW would be receiving an incentive of $10,000 against the cost of installation and purchase.

Even further savings are available. Customers who receive their electricity from Xcel, can qualify for “solar rewards,” which offers an additional $2.25 per Watt. The amazing thing about this incentive is that it is available for photovoltaic system of up to 40kW, and seeing that the average house will need a 5kW system to cover their electricity needs, an incentive for a 40kW system is an amazing offer.  But, keeping to the average 5kW system, the Xcel solar rewards can save you an additional $11,250. This is roughly 30% of the installation costs.

To qualify for this program, you must be a customer of Xcel and have an un-shaded south facing roof in good condition and must have your solar system “grid-tied” which means you will be sending the solar power directly to the utility supplier.

In addition to these incentives, there is the 30% Federal Tax Credit against the cost of installation and purchase. Everybody qualifies for this credit, regardless of the utility supplier. It is important to note that this tax credit will be applied after the previous incentives have been deducted.

An installer in your area can inform you of the precise details of all these programs and survey your property to assess if you qualify. A Minnesota solar installer will know your area and the average amount of sunshine you can expect and survey your property to gauge the size of system you could install. We will be happy to recommend a solar installer in your area.

A Minnesota solar installer will assist you with the necessary paperwork to claim all of the incentives you are entitled to and may know ways to save you even more money and reduce the payback period on your solar system.

When you consult a solar installer it is important to ask the right questions. Enquire about the company background, how long they have been installing solar, their installation process and the expected timeline. A reputable company should provide examples of their previous work. This will really give you peace of mind knowing the Minnesota solar installer you hire can perform a quality installation.
